MBS Equipment Co continue to drive sustainability in the right direction

As part of the company’s ongoing investment in sustainable solutions for our industry, MBS Equipment Co have taken delivery of a new 40,000litre HVO tank and fuel management system, at the company’s European HQ in Colnbrook, West London.

HVO (hydrotreated vegetable oil) is a low carbon, low emission, fossil-free and sustainable alternative to conventional diesel fuel. The installation of the new storage and distribution unit means that all MBS trucks, vans and generators, fuelling at their Colnbrook base, will now be running on HVO.

Toby Dare, MBSE Director of Sustainability and Risk Management says, “Being able to manage the fuel usage across the MBSE fleet equates to a saving of around 85% in carbon emissions, compared to traditional diesel. This, in turn, represents a reduction of over 700 tonnes of CO2 (based on 2023 figures) – another fantastic step forward in our sustainability programme which will bring our Scope 1 and Scope 2 figures to almost net zero by the end of 2024”.

This latest investment marks a sizeable addition to numerous MBSE company-wide sustainability initiatives, which already include purchasing 100% renewable electricity at all bases, operating eight segregated waste and recycling streams and stewarding throughout its business and the introduction of re-wilding and planting schemes at various sites.

As further confirmation of the MBSE commitment to creating a culture of continuity within the film and TV industry, MBSE is also home to the industry’s most expansive inventory of specialist LED and low energy lighting equipment, the largest of any other rental house. This continued drive toward building a more efficient, more sustainable operation is directly helping productions avoid thousands of tonnes CO2 on every project serviced by the company.

Toby concludes, “There are plenty of slogans and ‘green claims’ being made within our industry. We prefer facts, investment, metrics and auditable reductions. We are extremely proud to be introducing real world solutions which both corroborate our sustainability credentials and support our customers in achieving their own targets.”
